What is the Tipis surf camp?
The Tipis surf camp is the surf camp stripped back to the essentials: no lodge, no villa — just the Landes pine forest, a private tipi and the waves. Every August, Natural Surf Lodge reserves 4 tipis exclusively for its guests at Bathurt campsite in Soustons, 500 metres from Étang Blanc lake and a short drive from the nature reserve of Étang Noir. In the morning, you grab your wetsuit and head to Plage des Casernes. In the evening, you come back under the pines, fire up the barbecue and let the rest go. The coaching is the same as every other Natural Surf Lodge format — daily lessons, state-qualified instructors, equipment provided — but the atmosphere is different: less comfort, a lot more freedom. It's the option for those who want a real surf camp, without the extras around it.

The tipis — description and facilities
Bathurt campsite is a small, human-scale site with up to 25 pitches in summer. The 4 Natural Surf Lodge tipis are installed on a quiet pitch, away from other campers. Each tipi sleeps 2 (2 single beds) with storage space.
Natural Surf Lodge guests have access to all campsite facilities: showers, toilets, WC, communal areas. A lounge and kitchen area is reserved exclusively for Natural Surf Lodge guests — fully equipped for cooking and food storage.
Capacity: 4 tipis × 2 people = 8 guests maximum.

The tipis are located at Bathurt campsite, Soustons (40140), in the Landes pine forest.

⚠️ Important: the campsite is 5 km from the ocean — a personal means of transport is strongly recommended. Guests without a car can hire bikes through our Freelandes partner (promo code available at booking).

Who is the Tipis surf camp for?
The Tipis surf camp is for adults of all levels who want a nature-immersed, social surf experience at a more accessible price point. It's the ideal format for adventurous travellers, solo guests and groups of friends drawn to camping and forest life. It is not suitable for those looking for a private room or hotel-style comfort — for those profiles, the Lodge, Villa Baïna or Blue House options are more appropriate.
